Casual wear is so hard to disguise a belly as t shirts, tops even blouses show it. Wearing a smart blazer with a loose top is good but when its hot a blazer is no good. Menopause is making me look pregnant. I have heavy Sequined evening top and pair of straight leg light weight trousers and it hides it so well. I look so slim. Skinny jeans t shirts, even if baggy shows it when the wind pushes against the top lol. Ohhhh it's not fair!

You need darts in button down shirts to enhance your shape especially if you’re short.

In your thumbnail, you intentionally go frumpy when the look could be improved with a bit of tailoring. Tuck that shirt, for one! A belt? Nude rather than white flats? Also, the assumed goal here is to look "taller" (or proportional) but I've seen some very petite women really own their tiny and make it work in their look. Being small is pretty cool, after all! It's an interesting feature to work with. The goal is consistency, I think. It's not important to look taller. It's important to look like your clothes fit you. It's hard for those of us who happen to exist outside of "ready to wear" proportions, but heels are not necessarily the end goal of every petite outfit.

I don't think it's all wedges that look bad. I think a little 1 or 1.5 inch wedge looks good and would be fine on most. But those wedges you showed were way high so the wedge part was ridiculously prominent and chunky. Would be fine if the wedge was smaller.

If the size is big enough the pleats are good, but you can find a reverse pleat which is flat at the top

I think those big, long tops or tunics are the most unflattering, frumpy thing a woman can wear, even over skinny pants or leggings, but they’re disastrous over fuller-cut pants. They are also outdated by decades. Don’t wear a tent - show your feminine shape! No one else has a perfect, flat tummy, either, just show it, it’s a lot less noticeable than you think! We’re looking down at them, rounded out, but they really don’t look like that to others. If you’re female, you have a beautiful shape, don’t be afraid to show it.

I think heels are more flattering than wedges, that bit of daylight showing under the arch of the foot is visually lengthening. By “heels” I mean 2-2.5 inches high maximum, or “medium heels”. “High heels” are defined as 3 inches or higher, there’s no way I could wear those, I’ve tried and tried. I do love my medium heels, or at least a 1.5-inch heel, they make short me feel more confident. It’s been 40 years since I’ve seen a woman actually wearing high heels where I live, except for in Insta photos, not even for evening. If coming to the San Francisco area, don’t bother bringing high heels, they’re just not worn here.

I always thought tier maxis where you have several horizontal seams cut you in half or make you look wider…..almost like horizontal stripes. I love the look of them but at 5 foot tall I thought they wouldn’t work.

I do not like elevated waist lines on me . Looks like empire waist, shortens my torso and adds fabric bulk at the true waist/hip area, not the slimming drape that im looking for. The key is to look for light flowy fabrics like cotton rayon blend, soft gauze, satin/silk or good quality jersey knit. I wear slim block heels or flared kittens for height and stability. Fit and flare dresses are flattering to wide mid sections only if there is an actual waist seam, acting like a visual belt area. The FF with vertical darts do not have cinching appearance to disguise a thicker waistline, unless shapewear undergarment is worn
